His scientific contributions have been recognized with several prestigious international awards, including the H. Goldman Award from the SIdP, the Jaccard Award from the EFP, and the R. Earl Robinson Award for periodontal regeneration from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). Professor Cairo is the author or co-author of more than 120 publications in leading international journals, with over 6,000 citations and an H-index of 43. His primary research interests focus on plastic and reconstructive surgery around teeth and implants, prognosis of periodontal and implant therapies, and Periodontal Medicine (PerioMedicine). He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology and the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, and serves as a reviewer for numerous high-impact international journals.
