Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry (BRD) starts with the love and passion for the natural dentition and natural oral design. It encompasses the study and understanding of biological, morphological, mechanical and functional aspects of teeth and their supporting tissues, it concludes with the esthetic aspects as the cherry on the top. Mimicking the natural oral design requires tools and techniques that will be described in this work. Preventive, noninvasive, adhesive and minimally invasive dentistry are the cornerstones in this approach, the goal of which is the sole elimination of diseased tissues and the maintenance of all healthy tissues, unlike traditional prosthetic approaches that make substantial sacrifices (enamel, dentin and pulp) in the name of retention and resistance form; the latter are the nemesis of BRD, the motto of which is "less is more". Each patient case can be resolved with direct, semi-(in)direct or indirect approach depending on the size of the restorations, complexity of the case and affordability by the patient. High magnification aides (X8.0 and above), electric handpieces, oscillating tips, golden standard adhesive procedures (including the IDS, immediate dentin sealing technique), "out-of-the-box" approaches (including DME, deep margin elevation, and AL, additive luting with preheated restoratives) are a few examples of the armamentarium that will allow you, along with the biomimetic thinking, to ignite or refresh and renew your love for restorative dentistry. Get biomimetically bonded and stay bonded!
